Nestle Drumstick de Leche Ice Cream Cones Review
I have a confession. I have no idea what dulce de leche really is. I know what it tastes like, but I have no idea what it is, and how it differs from caramel. I know they have similar tastes and textures, but when it comes down to it, I don’t know what differentiates dulce de leche from caramel. After doing some research, I discovered dulce de leche is a bit heavier and thicker than caramel. Caramel is made from sugar and dulce de leche is milk-based. Whatever… all we know is that they taste pretty damn close.
Before I move on, I have another confession. I have no idea how to pronounce dulce de leche. Thankfully, this is a blog and not a vlog and I don’t have to embarrass myself trying to pronounce it.
These new Nestle Drumstick Dulce de Leche come in a box of eight — featuring three flavors. Dulce de Leche, Vanilla with Dulce de Leche, and Vanilla with Fudge. Here’s a brief overview of them:
- Dulce de Leche: Features dulce de leche ice cream base and a caramel center, all dipped in a dulce de leche shell.
- Vanilla with Dulce de Leche: Features vanilla ice cream base and a caramel center, all dipped in a dulce de leche shell.
- Vanilla with Fudge: Features vanilla ice cream base and a fudge center, all dipped in a dulce de leche shell.
I first tried the vanilla with dulce de leche and was very impressed. You immediately pick up on the very caramel-y shell as you bite in. It pairs perfectly with the vanilla ice cream base. However, once I tried the dulce de leche flavor (the one with dulce de leche ice cream base), I was simply BLOWN away. The caramel flavor is much more prominent, which makes sense since you’re getting caramel from the shell and the ice cream. They didn’t skimp out on flavor with these. The dulce de leche/caramel flavor is there and there’s no doubt about it.
I tried the vanilla with fudge center last and really enjoyed it as well. The dulce de leche coating on the outside is what truly shines. I kinda wish they used chocolate ice cream in this one to pair with the fudge center. Although the vanilla cones were really enjoyable, they just didn’t compare to the dulce de leche cone that featured the dulce de leche ice cream. The others had plain vanilla ice cream, which isn’t bad, but once you try the dulce de leche cone, you realize it’s so much better. It’s not your typical Drumstick cone.
If you enjoy caramel, these are a DEFINITE buy. I am a bit bummed they don’t sell boxes of JUST the dulce de leche cone. If you do buy a box of these, be sure to claim the dulce de leche cones as your own…don’t let anyone else in your household grab them! Now that I am done with this review…is this legit really how you pronounce dulde de leche?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! ????

Summary
If you enjoy caramel, these are a DEFINITE buy. Nestle should sell boxes of JUST the dulce de leche cone because that one is definitely the best of the three!
