Sour Patch Kids Cereal Review

What a great way to wrap up 2018. Sour Patch Kids Cereal exists and we managed to hunt it down before the official release date of early January 2019. We live in a time in which Doritos become tacos, Oreos become cereal, Froot Loops becomes donuts…and now — Sour Patch Kids becomes cereal. I am honestly excited to see what 2019 has in store for us!

Just like the candy, this cereal is advertised as “Sour then sweet”. I am so curious to see if they can pull this off just like they do with the candy. We all are familiar with the classic Sour Patch Kids candy. The sugar coating hits the tongue first, then the gummy part brings on the sweetness. Will this cereal deliver the same unique combination?

The second you open the box, you are hit with a distinct punch of sour, sugary Sour Patch Kids. It smelled like a somewhat sweeter Fruity Pebbles! I usually wait to snack on cereal until after I have tried it with milk, but I was too excited for this one. I am AMAZED! They nailed the ‘sour than sweet’ aspect. The classic sour taste is present in cereal form. And it’s still a very sweet and sugary cereal — so they didn’t skimp on that! I am left confused how Post was able to pull this one off! I didn’t expect them to truly capture the essence of Sour Patch Kids in cereal form.

The more you eat, the more you realize that this cereal tastes like a sour version of Fruity Pebbles. With milk — the story does change a bit. The sourness and sweetness of the cereal gets toned down quite a bit, but not enough for me to complain. The cereal has an amazing crunch that remains even after the cereal has been soaking up in milk for a while! If you’re wondering…the milk doesn’t turn sour after you’ve finished eating your cereal. *Sad face*

Bottom line — this cereal is plain good. Just as they advertise. I could see myself snacking on this cereal throughout the day. I definitely think the cereal is better without the milk, but you can’t go wrong either way. Would I buy this cereal again? Probably not — it’s fun to eat, but not one I would go back for. However, the execution of the cereal is damn near flawless. You’re getting what you’re buying — Sour Patch Kids in cereal form! A fun and unique experience! Bring on 2019….my belly is ready!

I steal my nieces’ Halloween candy and laugh about it, put whipped cream on vegetables, don’t trust food that isn’t in a package, and worship ice cream. Chips are my favorite snack and might just end up being my downfall. I would marry Flamin' Hot Cheetos if it was legal (and not weird). Born and raised near Detroit, I grew up eating delicious coney dogs, unique pizzas, and of course --- all the best snacks.
