Sour Patch Kids Candy Corn Review

Ahhh. It’s only August but I am already dreaming of the Fall. The hayrides, the apple cider, the changing leaves, apple picking, pumpkin spice everything, and Halloween candy. I want it all. Right now. Especially the candy. And thanks to Dollar General, I don’t have to wait until fall to get my hands on the candy! I stumbled across Sour Patch Kids Candy Corn and you bet I had to get it. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present you the first Halloween candy review of 2018 on Snack Gator! *cue the huge round of applause*

Sour Patch Kids Candy Corn feature two flavors — orange and grape. I am pretty baffled why they went with orange and grape, as the original Sour Patch Kids do not feature grape as a flavor. However, you all know I am a huge gummy and fruity candy fan, so this is right up my alley! When I first bought these, I was confused if these were Sour Patch Kids candy shaped into candy corn pieces or if they were actually candy corn pieces dusted in the classic Sour Patch Kids sour sugar coating. Turns out they are actually candy corn pieces!

Looks can be deceiving though…These candy corns do not actually taste like candy corn! The consistency is also different compared to regular candy corn — they are a bit softer, yet harder than typical Sour Patch Kids candy. This is not a bad thing though since regular candy corn gets old so incredibly fast! The orange flavor tastes strikingly similar to an orange Airheads candy. The grape tastes a bit bolder than most grape candies these days and it’s delicious. The sour dusting on each pieces gives the flavor a nice balance of tang and sourness!

It’s worth noting that these are less sour than regular Sour Patch Kids…but it’s okay because the tang is more present in these and it’s simply perfect. You can easily say that this ‘candy corn’ isn’t really candy corn. It doesn’t have the same texture or flavor and nothing about it (besides the shape) reminds me of candy corn.

In summary, Sour Patch Kids is the best thing that has ever happened to candy corn. I finally found a way to enjoy candy corn this Halloween!

I steal my nieces’ Halloween candy and laugh about it, put whipped cream on vegetables, don’t trust food that isn’t in a package, and worship ice cream. Chips are my favorite snack and might just end up being my downfall. I would marry Flamin' Hot Cheetos if it was legal (and not weird). Born and raised near Detroit, I grew up eating delicious coney dogs, unique pizzas, and of course --- all the best snacks.

  • […] Sour Patch Kids Candy Corn | This is the first Halloween ‘candy’ review! And I KNOW Halloween isn’t until October and I KNOW we’re still in August… but cover things in bats and black cats and I’m there. I love the “Fall” meets “Halloween” season – at least online in reviews. America gets all sorts of interesting and varied things (whereas in the UK they just tend to repackage our existing snacks). As for the sweets themselves? They’re orange and grape flavoured! | SnackGator […]
