LÄRABAR Kid Brownie Review

Think back to when you were a kid in school. It’s lunchtime and you open that brown paper bag, filled with the sustenance that would keep you going until you got home for an after school snack. Jeni scored homemade cookies, Ding Dongs or Kudos granola bars. Jason loved opening his lunch to see fruit snacks and Cosmic Brownies.  There weren’t a lot of healthy choices back when we were kids.

After school, we would rush home to watch He-man or Muppet Babies, and grab a snack. Jeni had some sneaky maneuvers to steal cookies from the cookie jar without it looking like any were missing. Jason opted for the more sophisticated pizza rolls for his after school snack.

Our parents worked with what they had, and we definitely never felt like we were missing out on anything.  But thanks to LÄRABAR, now kids can score energy-enhancing, gluten-free, non-GMO baked treats that parents can feel great about giving them.  These are yummy brownies made with real ingredients like buckwheat flour and Fair Trade Certified chocolate chips. In fact, when you look at the ingredients, you’ll recognize every single one of them! Each has only 9 ingredients.

  • Chocolate Brownie: Buckwheat flour, Semisweet Chocolate (unsweetened chocolate, cane sugar, cocoa butter, vanilla extract), Honey, Cane Sugar, Coconut Oil, Water, Chia Seeds, Cocoa Power, Sea Salt
  • Chocolate Mint Brownie: Buckwheat Flour, Semisweet Chocolate Chips (unsweetened chocolate, cane sugar, cocoa butter, vanilla extract), Honey, Cane Sugar, Coconut Oil, Water, Chia Seeds, Cocoa Powder, Peppermint Oil

So, let’s try these!

Chocolate Brownie

Jason’s Take: Good brownies are always moist. Without even biting into it, you can visibly see that these are moist brownies! As I bite into one, I am wondering how in the world they managed to make such a delicious brownie using only nine ingredients! Hints of honey, semisweet chocolate, and coconut oil really come together to make for one delicious treat without being too sweet.

Jeni’s Take:  Pint-sized, and perfect for little hands.  That was my first thought as I opened the package.  I took a bite and was honestly shocked.  These are SO moist!  I mean, seriously… how do they do that!?  Amazing. The flavors are beautiful, and the coconut oil is definitely notable, offering a brownie that seems naturally and uniquely sweet. I can honestly say that as a kid, I would be more than satisfied with one of these!

Chocolate Mint Brownie

Jason’s Take: I am a huge fan of anything chocolate mint. Ice cream, cookies, and brownies. These chocolate mint brownies have peppermint oil as an ingredient for the mint effect. I was concerned at first that the mint would be too strong for kids to enjoy, but once I bit into it, I knew I was wrong. The mint is subtle, yet still enough to know that you’re enjoying a chocolate mint brownie. I gave a brownie to my niece, Gabriella, and she ate it so quickly and asked for more. Gabriella also approves!

Jeni’s Take: As soon as I opened it, a beautiful, cocoa scent escaped.  It was pure, natural and honestly, really clean smelling. I love that they are nice and thick, and soft with a slightly harder shell.  As the brownie rolled around in my mouth, I could literally taste ingredients.  Peppermint oil, honey, coconut oil and cocoa powder were all there in the forefront. I really like that the peppermint is really subtle – which seems perfect for a kids’ picky palette.  These are absolutely delicious and I really wish we had them when I was  kid!

Whether you’re heading out on a road trip or day at the beach this summer, stocking up on lunch treats and after school snacks, or want to be sure your kids’ sweet tooth is appeased without giving them candy with harsh chemical ingredients, LÄRABAR Kids Brownies are the perfect solution. We may not be kids anymore, but we sure enjoyed these and would absolutely give them to our own children! Lucky kids…. 🙂

Jeni

When I'm not stuffing my face with salty treats made of pure carbohydrates, I'm working out and trying to sweat out the excessive calories I ate.  I live in Dallas, Texas and absolutely love it.  This is the state that fries everything, serves 2 pound chicken fried steak dinners with at least 2 sides that are beautiful, tan and delicious. I eat tacos with ketchup, consider wine and popcorn a meal, put bacon on everything and will slap a fool if he asks for a bite of my beef jerky.

I steal my nieces’ Halloween candy and laugh about it, put whipped cream on vegetables, don’t trust food that isn’t in a package, and worship ice cream. Chips are my favorite snack and might just end up being my downfall. I would marry Flamin' Hot Cheetos if it was legal (and not weird). Born and raised near Detroit, I grew up eating delicious coney dogs, unique pizzas, and of course --- all the best snacks.

  • […] Lärabar Kid Brownie | Whilst I was in Munich, I found some Lärabar products for sale at the American Heritage shop – and loved them. They’re ridiculously difficult to find in the UK though – and yes, I’m debating paying all the import taxes to get a box shipped over. This new ‘kid friendly’ range of Brownies looks good too. I’m super interested in the chocolate mint brownie reviewed here! | Snackgator […]
