Pumpkin pie does something to people in the late summer months. It evokes a sense of excitement. It temps taste buds. It arouses our adoration for everything that comes with the season. It induces a sense of anticipated indulgence. Yes, pumpkin pie is the mascot of all things fall, and is the official flavor that signifies the end of summer and the beginning of the long holiday season.  It might be basic, but it’s the time of the year when everyone is basic. It’s the combination of spices (cloves, nutmeg, allspice, ginger & cinnamon) that make pumpkin pie so inviting. Get ready for fall, because Frosted Flakes is kicking us off with their brand new Pumpkin Spice Cereal!

I opened the box and was flooded with the scent of cloves and cinnamon.  It’s absolutely mouth-watering.  This is a really strong, comforting smell that’s giving me a lot of hope for this cereal. Oddly enough, cloves aren’t listed on the ingredients. I poured a bowl, and dove in.  Holy freaking balls. This is AMAZING!  They absolutely nailed the pumpkin spice.  I get the kick from the cinnamon, the bitterness from the ginger, the spice from the nutmeg… I’m honestly amazed.  I had high hopes, but didn’t think this cereal would deliver.

More than just “pumpkin spice,” it tastes like pumpkin pie.  Maybe it’s the milk soaking in, but I get that super creamy almost pudding like flavor from it. It’s honestly a perfect balance of the spices that make pumpkin spice, with the soothing, creamy taste of pumpkin pie.  This could be my favorite attempt at combining cereal and pumpkin spice. I love that the spices aren’t overpowering – it’s just the right amount to make you recognize the flavors, but not too much that it leaves a lingering, grody aftertaste in your mouth.  Even the milk is left with a subtle, sweet pumpkin spice flavor that’s totally drinkable.

Frosted Flakes hit this one out of the park. They just put the fall season into a box, slapped a tiger on it and dropped the mic. If you’ve been waiting for the Pumpkin Spice Gods to officially start the season, they just did. Get a box, and be proud to be basic this season.

When I'm not stuffing my face with salty treats made of pure carbohydrates, I'm working out and trying to sweat out the excessive calories I ate.  I live in Dallas, Texas and absolutely love it.  This is the state that fries everything, serves 2 pound chicken fried steak dinners with at least 2 sides that are beautiful, tan and delicious. I eat tacos with ketchup, consider wine and popcorn a meal, put bacon on everything and will slap a fool if he asks for a bite of my beef jerky.
