Nashville Hot Chicken Pringles Review

Nashville Hot Chicken Pringles Review

Time for a boring history lesson. I promise, I will keep it short — and it’s not as boring as history class, because this one involves food. Nashville Hot Chicken dates back to the 1930s when some loser (named Thorton Prince) got dumped by his girlfriend for hitting on another girl. The girlfriend, angry and upset, wanted to get back at Thorton. To do so, she used his love for fried chicken as bait, and came up with the perfect recipe. The recipe involved ton of extra heat using spices and peppers. Hoping he wouldn’t be able to tolerate it, she served it up to him. The exact opposite happened and Thorton absolutely loved the dish. For years, he worked to perfect his own recipe and eventually opened up his own restaurant in Nashville. His restaurant, still open today, is considered to be birthplace of Nashville Hot Chicken. Dollar General is based around the same area…so it only made sense for Pringles to keep this new Nashville Hot Chicken Pringles flavor a Dollar General exclusive!

I got my hands on these new Nashville Hot Chicken Pringles and boy and I am excited! Truth be told, I’ve only had actual Nashville Hot Chicken a handful of times in my life, but I am a huge fan. Diving right into these, I try a bite and pick up on all of the Nashville hot chicken flavors. Cayenne, garlic powder, paprika, and even hot sauce. Yup, hot sauce is listed as an ingredient in these! I pick up on all the flavors. None are bolder than the others, they are all just there to make for one delicious chip. As a spicy snacks lover, I was waiting for the heat to kick in. Eating more and more, I keep thinking the burn is going to come at any minute. It never comes unfortunately. Still, they are delicious. Just don’t expect a bold, spicy flavor right off the bat.

One flavor I wasn’t picking up on was the pickle! Even the Pringles package displays pickles on the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The Pringles press release suggests that you stack a Dill Pickle Pringle with a Nashville Hot Chicken Pringle to get the full experience. And so I did. YES. There we go. Somehow, someway, the Dill Pickle Pringles bring out all of the flavors of the Nashville Hot Chicken Pringles. It’s magical. Remember when I said the flavors weren’t bold? Scratch all of that. When combined with the pickle Pringles, all of the flavors are front and center. It even gets a tad bit spicier too when combined with the dill flavor.

Yeah, the Nashville Hot Chicken Pringles are good, but they are better when combined with the Dill Pickle Pringles. I sorta wish they just included the pickle flavor in the Nashville Hot Chicken Pringles in the first place, but combining the two flavors together is pretty fun and made up for it. I got my nieces and nephews to try it out too and they had a blast. They all agreed that it was better when combining both chips!

Don’t forget…these are a Dollar General exclusive. So don’t go trying to find them at Walmart or some random gas station…they won’t be there. Also…what kind of name is Thorton?

I steal my nieces’ Halloween candy and laugh about it, put whipped cream on vegetables, don’t trust food that isn’t in a package, and worship ice cream. Chips are my favorite snack and might just end up being my downfall. I would marry Flamin' Hot Cheetos if it was legal (and not weird). Born and raised near Detroit, I grew up eating delicious coney dogs, unique pizzas, and of course --- all the best snacks.
