Kit Kat Pumpkin Pie Review

I’ve never been to Japan, and don’t have any plans to visit…but I am pretty jealous of some of the awesome snacks they get over there. There is Pepsi Salty Watermelon, Mountain Dew flavored chips, Clam Chowder Doritos, and a huge array of Kit Kat flavors that make me want to pack my bags and suffer through a 16 hour flight to a foreign country that thinks raw fish is a meal,  just for the snacks.  Caramel Macchiato Kit Kat.  Brown Sugar Syrup Kit Kat. Ginger Ale Kit Kat.  Apple Kit Kat. Japan just likes to show off.

Here in the United States, we take what we can get.  And, we occasionally get some awesomeness like the new Kit Kat Pumpkin Pie!  HA!  How do you like that, Japan?  You may have a pumpkin Kit Kat, but here in America, we just scored a Pumpkin Pie flavor.

I searched everywhere for the elusive Kit Kat Pumpkin Pie.  Finally, after 2 weeks of diligent hunting, I found them at my nearest Kroger store, in the snack size packs. Snack size isn’t ideal for me.  It just means I’ll feel like I’m eating more, because I’m opening way more packages.  However, these are pumpkin pie flavored Kit Kats, and I really want them.

The packages say “crisp wafers in a pumpkin pie flavored creme.”  On the orange package is a pumpkin pie with a black cat (who is wearing a chef’s hat) is peeking over it, looking down at the pie.  I’m not sure about the necessity of the cat, or the cat wearing a hat, but I love the festive orange package.

I opened the package and not surprisingly, found an orange colored Kit Kat.  These are an almost muted burnt orange,  and as soon as I opened it, I could immediately smell cloves. Hardcore cloves and some cinnamon.  If something can smell warm, that’s what this candy is doing.  It smells warm, which made me picture a warm pumpkin pie in the oven.

I broke myself off a piece of that Kit Kat bar, and was shocked when I took my first bite. Not only does this taste exactly like pumpkin pie, it tastes like warm pumpkin pie with whipped cream.  There’s a definitely creaminess in this candy that is totally different than I have found in most other pumpkin flavored items.  Those products taste like pumpkin spice.  This is absolutely, definitely and without a doubt, pumpkin pie.

Another thing I love about these is that the flavor isn’t overpowering and doesn’t leave that clove aftertaste in my mouth. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing subtle about the pumpkin flavor in these – it’s pretty strong and distinct.  But it isn’t so much that makes my face squish in disgust.  Cinnamon and clove are the standout spices in this candy.  And the wafer actually offers a nice crust alternative.  You get the creaminess and spices of a pumpkin pie, including the crust.

Hands down, this is the best pumpkin pie product I’ve had this year.  These are absolutely delicious and they nailed the pumpkin pie flavors.  Kit Kat was the perfect candy for this, because of it’s mild flavor. They basically replaced the chocolate coating around the wafers with something so brilliantly resembling pumpkin pie, I have to call a winner for the season.  And now, more than ever, I want to pay $1,000, sit in a cramped coach seat for 16 hours and fly to Japan.

When I'm not stuffing my face with salty treats made of pure carbohydrates, I'm working out and trying to sweat out the excessive calories I ate.  I live in Dallas, Texas and absolutely love it.  This is the state that fries everything, serves 2 pound chicken fried steak dinners with at least 2 sides that are beautiful, tan and delicious. I eat tacos with ketchup, consider wine and popcorn a meal, put bacon on everything and will slap a fool if he asks for a bite of my beef jerky.
